Weezerfest Dallas: "The date has been set for Sept. 27th, but the
location is currently unknown. There will be 2 Weezerfests, one
being the get-together to trade and have a sing-along, the other
being more of a tribute concert with live local bands. So far Bye
Bye Beijing (pongshow's band) and The Gemini Project are set to do
the show but I'm not really certain on the status of the tribute
concert." For info and to help, contact Deya on the message board,
at the boardnames "geektastichic" or "flossie".
Weezerfest Toronto: "Place: Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Time:
September 14th. Are you interested in joining your fellow weezer

...on a recent day on CNN Headline news, weezer made another "news
ticker" appearence, this time for the EP. "Live From Tokyo: rockers
weezer to release live album in September from world cup tour". Nice!

*touring: [428] fly home! *
...today was going home day, or I should say scattering day, as
people flew out to various destinations for a break period before
regrouping later in September for new album 5 rehearsals. Some went
to LA, others to points east. Crew members Bobby and Derek and I
ended up on the same flight to Dulles Airport in DC. Which was
cancelled due to mechanical trouble. So they got us on a later
flight. Which sat on the runway for 90 min while they searched the
luggage bays for the luggage of people who gave up their seats for
others. Finally airborne at 3 PM after waking up at 6:30 am to go to
the airport, we settled in for a zoned out flight... below, you see
us in Dulles, thoroughly burnt out, waiting for our various
connecting flights.

the 8-23 and 8-24 reports, below.
*touring: [428] London: London Arena show with Guns N Roses *
...today we headed down to the Docklands area of London [at least
thats where the driver guy said we were], to the 12,500 seat London
Arena. Sheeny says thats where Robbie Williams played once...not
that she was there to see it of course. This was an indoor arena, in
fact a hockey arena [who knew they had hockey in England?], so this
took us right back to the many Midget tours of last winter. The main
difference of course was that weezer wasnt headlining, they were
opening for the legendary Guns N Roses, albeit the somewhat
different GnR of 2002. The GnR set and lights were exceedingly
unruly to set up and it ended up that weezer had to squeeze in a
quickie soundcheck right before they opened the doors to let the
crowd in. No worries, that's rock n roll. They ran thru the new song
"Turn Me Round", which would hit the setlist tonight, delighting the
minority weez crowd and coming off as even more mysterious to the
plastic beer bottle throwing GNR crowd. But the weez set was indeed
rocking, despite the semi hostile crowd peppered with fanatic weez
fans. They certainly won over some skeptics tonight! Pat later said
it took him half the set to calm down and get into the groove, but
you couldnt tell he was unsettled due to his raging playing. Rivers
made the astute comment mid-set, that this was just like the old
days in L.A., when weezer would play support to "Guns N Roses rip
off bands", to crowds who were simply not having the
non-big-hair-rock. And now, 10 years later, they were getting a very
similar effect, only supporting the real thing! Well, while there
were some rather quiet moments between songs, by the end of the set
they had really warmed most people up and got the crowd
stoked...About an hour later GnR hit the stage and the place
exploded with rock energy. Real explosions too, courtesy the
well-stocked GnR pyro department!
Tonights show was visited by label mates Puddle of Mudd [also on the
road in Europe] and Jordan, our man from Geffen. Post show was
farewells and best wishes, as the next few weeks are chill time for
the band.
...fans' stories from the London Arena...
- "...I had tickets for the Dashboard Confessional for today (my 2nd
favourite band) and found out too later about the =w=/GNR concert
because it seemed sold out on the net. On my way back from the Leeds
Festival I found out at Ticketmaster/Picadilly tickets were still
available for the weez. It was already 5:30 so I headed to the
Arena. To my surprise, Weezer started their set at 7, as I was
entering. My sixth =w= show and great as all others. 'Modern Dukes'
as a great opener (just like at the whiskey) and a really nice new
tune, 'Turn you around' - could be A hit single, as always. Great
concert! Rivers ended the concert screaming 'Welcome to the
Jungle!!!!' at 7:40 as I found out I had time left to catch
Dashboard and Saves the Day at Camden, at the other side of London,
and did so. Awesome!!! By the way, I'm from Brazil and it was really
nice to see a Brazilian flag at the concert and even run on an old
friend there. WEEZER RULES MY LIFE!!" ---Melvin, Rio de Janeiro,
Brasil
- "...Damn, what a gig! Best line up ive ever seen! Pretty cool
venue for an arena (much nicer than wembley anyway) hope to see
weezer headlining next time out :) 10th time seeing weezer! Played
excellent, dont think ive ever seen them sound so tight and heavy
before, pat was beating the hell out of those drums! the guys seemed
to go down well dont ya reckon? I think they definatly made a few
new metal friends tonight! Didnt see any =w= shirts but i sang along
loud anyway and tried to represent!! Guns n Roses were amazing
(weird seeing all new band tho, duff an slash def missed) how funny
was that
when axl pulled his trousers down during patience? Gnr was my first
gig in '92 when i was 11, so that plus weezer, it was kind of
emotional!...ROCK MUSIC." ---Dan

*touring: [428] day off in London*
Bank Holiday Weekend here in London, and a stunningly beautiful day.
Rivers headed over to the 3rd day of the Reading Festival to check
out some more bands, while everyone else took advantage of the
awesome weather to hoof it all over London...and also get some work
done, as usual...[more DVD editing action for me, still hoping for a
2002 release!].
_...later, Pat grew bee-like wings and started buzzing around the
hotel!..._
...in other news, at above left is another weezer cover, this time
from Brazil where the music of weezer has been slowly gaining
popularity and is now a solid alternative fave amongst the music
hounds [thanks to Flavia!]...And at above right is the latest cartoon

*08/24/02 move me on to any black square*
special announcement: schedule change Okay, theres been some changes
in plans for the upcoming week: While the Monday show with Guns n'
Roses at the London Arena is still all systems go [tickets still
available here ! [429] ], the events later in the week have now been
*cancelled*. So: _no_ Harald Schmidt show in Germany, and _no_ Top Of
The Pops, Saturday Show and CD:UK appearences later in the week.
Apologies to all who may be inconvenienced by this change in plans.
*touring: [428] Leeds Festival, UK*
...well today started out with a massive deluge that left huge
puddles and soggy muddy fields everywhere. Fortunatly the fine local
countryside is used to such displays from mother nature, as are the
hardy festival goers. Luckily, the rain gave up the ghost as we got
into the afternoon, and most bands were given a dry performance time.
Weezer arrived on the scene at the end of Mercury Rev's trippy,
blissed out set. Soon they were off and The Dandy Warhols took the
stage for more mellow madness. Then the White Stripes had another
go.. "St. James Infirmary" being a personal fave as it dates back to
Josh White and beyond. Finally weezer took the stage to a raucous,
loud, and only slightly worn down second-day crowd. I think Leeds is
slightly smaller than Reading, and I dont theink it quite sold out
the way Reading did, but it still looked like more people than youve
ever seen in one place! Everything rocked as it should. Then Jane's
played and today they had the treat of sunshine dappling their
phenominal set. We packed up and headed back to London after they
played, as everyone getting tired and were looking forward to a bed
to sleep in and the upcoming day off...
_...pic #12: Mtv2 contest winners Joey and Zack, flown in from the
USA!..._
...the first Leeds fans' tales that came in:
- "...This was my fifth Weezer show, first in England (I'm from
Brazil) and the guys really rocked the house again! The rain had
stopped for the weez (always rains on Leeds) and they did my
favourite set of the festival. I would have loved to hear a
non-all-hit-singles selection but I do understand this was not the
time and place. Too bad it was my last weezer concert on the year
(GNR is sold out!). Thanks again, guys, for rocking my world. 'My
Name is Jonas' and 'Surf Wax America'
were the highlights. See you next year, hopefully in Brazil!!! And
watch out for the rainbow!!" ---Melvin, Rio de Janeiro, Straight from
Leeds
- "...I thought I'd share my Weezer weekend with you (and possibly
the site). Me and my friend got boat from Ireland
to England on Friday heading to the Leeds festival. On the way to
Leeds, we stopped at an art gallery in Manchester
and my friend says "We're goin to see the Pinkerton cover original
painting!!!" I went crazy and sure enough this
sound lady brought us up to see it. It was the original painting that
Rivers had picked. (I believe he was there in '95 or '96 with that
same lady!) She couldn't believe at how enthusiastic we were. We told
her of the album and she goes "is this something to do with a band
called Weezer or something" and we said yeah, and she goes, well,
when this record went gold, weezer gave the gold disc to us and I
have it here if you want to see it! I nearly died. She went into
another room, and got it out (it was still wrapped up). We were the
first people to see it since Weezer! Then onto Saturday. We arrived
at about 11:50 and the Mouldy Peaches were on. After that, we went up
the front and stayed there untill The =W= were on, through the rain.
I was surrounded by weezer fans which was cool and when they came out
it was unbelievable. Everyone went nuts (I was totally crushed). Pat
was doin some roll and then he went into Undone. The setlist was
amazing and when they played SIAS, I almost cried. Rivers was really
funny, he said things like "Thanks for your punches, and makin that a
fat jam" (after Don't Let Go). When weezer were finished we needed a
break. I still couldn't believe we were so close and they were so
good. Feeded were also brilliant on the evening stage. I have now
stocked up on Weezer merchandise and are waiting for Weezer to come
to Ireland! Thank you =W=eezer for the best weekend of my life."
---Conor . Pinkerton=Triangle .
- "...Just wanted to say a massive thankyou for the set at Leeds
yesterday. Even though it had been raining the rainbow overhead was
not quite as cool as the show you guys put on for us. It was the
first time we have seen the band play live and upon the performance,
we'll do our dammed-est to get tickets when you return to tour the
UK. Only bought the Green CD and Maladroit a few weeks ago, but after
all the songs you lot played, it felt like we had been fans for
ages....And Rivers was right, we do have lovely birds..." ---Dan & Fi
- "...after going to two previous uk gigs,a weezer appearance at
leeds this year was one of the main reasons for buying my ticket and
they certainly didnt disappoint!!! from the opening bars of undone to
the chaos of buddy holly i was in heaven! the sun also made a rare
apearance for the entire set!!! cool to see the guys, especially
rivers, havin a great time and getting the crowd going. why did
reading get an extra pinkerton song tho? thanks for a great show and
come back soon!!!!!!" ---tom,Hull,UK
- "...Well, hey... third time lucky for me to get to see you guys :)
finally nothing got in the way of me getting to one of your gigs...
tho it would have taken at least 3 of my 4 limbs to have been broken
to stop me seeing this once I'd got here :) First things first, buy
Rivers a calendar. Really. Starting with "it's a lovely sunday
afternoon" on a Saturday show wasn't the greatest of beginnings! But
I doubt any of the many MANY Weez fans I saw there turned up to
listen to Rivers talk, we all turned up to hear him rock, and rock he
did... from the opening of Undone to the closing of Buddy Holly, the
set rocked. If there is any one complaint I have, it's that you
played pretty much all of the singles; but, then again, it's a
festival, so it can be forgiven. I would also moan about the lack of
Pinkerton songs (only one, you deprive
us), but the treatment the Green songs got was amazing - they rocked
like they deserved to, and the guitar solos were way way way way WAY
better than they were on the album. I think the set also reinforced
what a helluva nice bunch of people Weezer fans are. Every other set
had bottles being thrown - this lot had balloons and a beach ball.
And it's so much nicer to see the =W= than fists or the horns-thing
:) All said - you have to come here more often dudes :D" ---#~~Matt

*08/23/02 she hasn't got time to decide*
*touring: [428] Reading Festival, UK*
...Reading Festival 2002! Well, today the festival kicked off right
with warm temperatures, sunny skies, and 50,000 fresh faced fans in
search of 3 days of rock. We arrived on the site after the Moldy
Peaches were finished, so we dont know how things got started. We
caught some of The Soundtrack To Our Lives's set, which was closely
watched by Oasis' Noel G. [now fortunately looking quite well after
his US tour auto accident]. Pat Wilson liked this set as well. Then
the Dandy Warhols played, and took us all by suprise, playing 10
minute Spiritualized-ish jams for a while, then morphing into a more
80's synth pop sound. Then it was The White Stripes' turn to rock,
and now things started to heat up! They were tight and sharp and full
of vim and vigor, playing a bunch of old blues songs, some originals,
and decidedly not playing their big hit song. That's pretty darn
cool. Then it was our turn, and weezer grabbed the stage and shook it
hard. The roar of the crowd when the guys took the stage was awesome!
place went bananas and the crowdsurfing really picked up, as endless
waves of people bobbed and churned. Everyone had a good show, and
with the help of our super-crew overcame the minor tech things that
tend to crop up at these festival gigs where theres no soundcheck.
Pat was really on fire, and later said, "I represented." True that!
The finale had a nice rock finish, with Pats drums flying everywhere
in a rare display of weez rock hitting the magic boiling point of
destruction and chaos!! Nice work! Then the crowd got a serious
treat, as Jane's Addiction put in a rare show, sounding epic. Right
when they started, it quickly clouded over and started raining - thus
continuing what is apparently a Reading tradition where at least some
rain falls each day... if not a ton of rain! Tonight wasnt so bad,
with the showers letting up later on. Then Pulp went on. Pulp had but
one big song in the USA, but here in England they have been massive
for years, and commanded the attention of the whole place. Finally
The Strokes played last, headlining the Reading festival after only
having been around about a year. Over here in the UK they got really
huge, really fast! They rocked it out, with singer Julian back on his
feet at last.
...the first Reading fans' tales that came in:
- "...im writing to tell you how much the reading rock festival
weezer show rocked!!! oh my god, it was amazing. and i swear, all i
could hear/see afterwards were people hurrying to buy weezer shirts
then throwing them on and saying in very loud voices how awesome it
all was...and it reelie was awesome. the sun was even shining for
weezer! (since it rained right afterwards) but the sun was nothing
compared to the show u guys put on! it was amazing- the songs got
everyone stoked. and it was truly brilliant how everyone around me
knew all the words to every single song! the set list was amazing.
rivers was so rock god-ish- throwing his guitar up behind him,
raising his arms like jesus or something. scott, brian, and pat were
all so great too! especially when pat destroyed his drums at the end-
that was pretty pretty rad! the show was heart stopping and it was a
wicked experience--> the high light of the entire reading festival,
and i already know that even tho i havent exactly lived the next two
days...but watching weezer today...dude, you guys killed everyone
else. you rocked england." ---kayleigh
- "...Just wanting to say what a kickass show Weezer put on at
Reading. The atmosphere didn't really get electric until the guys
turned up on stage after what seemed like a 24 hour wait after the
White Stripes left. Great to hear all the Weezer super-hits and so
much of the Blue Album. Rivers was loving the Weezer chants and his
screams of appreciation made everyone smile. The whole band seemed on
fire and in end the we were sad to see them go. Cheers!" ---Vaincher
- "...I just got back from the Weezer show at Reading, and I can tell
you, I traveled for 3 hours there and back just for them! It was
total chaos, but definitely worth it to see my favourite band. They
really rocked it out last night, and from what I can tell, the guys
particularly enjoyed this show, and Rivers was smiling constantly and
jumping for joy. I'm really happy they played SIAS, but....In Dreams?
Ah well, all in all I think it was a pretty great set. Hope to see
the Weezer again when they return to our shores (Soon, hopefully)!
Rock On Tokyo! Note: The pit was totally psycho dude! People need to
calm down, they're not Slayer, for god's sake." ---Mark, from
Colchester
- "...your show was definitly the best gig of the day. Amazing,
awesome (can't find my words... I'm french ,-) I love your music,
your attitude on stage, your sense of humor... and the great respect
you have with your fans. What a good surprise to be able to read a
review of that first reading02 day on your website with great
pictures..." ---Nicolas - Oxford.
- "...Just a quick note to say that WEEZER WERE AMAZING!!! Not that
we expected any less of course, but i can honestly say that weezer
have been the highlight of my summer! Weezer were so great! You guys
rocked out big styley, nearly everyone i spoke to said that you
should have head lined, but paying for a day ticket to see the weez
was worth every penny!!You guys were amazing, the set list was
perfect for a summery English day and I had such an amazing time!
Hopefully see you guys sometime soon!!! Thank you so much! Keep
Rocking!" ~ Fliss (ditzymuppet)
- "...Hey, I've just got back from Reading Festival and just had to
tell you how great the Weezer show was. I've been lucky enough to
have seen Weezer before but this was something different...the guys
totally rocked in new and unimaginable ways!!! Afterwards people all
around me, soaked with sweat but with a look of euphoria spread
across their faces, were talking of how this was going to go down as
one of the legendary Reading Festival performances. So thank you guys
for coming to play in the UK again, you have so many fans here who
all firmly belive in Weezer - the greatest rock force on the
planet!!!" ---Jonny, from Reading UK
- "...I've always wanted to write one of these fan reports but
unfortunately I had never been to a Weezer concert before but this
weekend that all changed. You see I'm from Ireland and Weezer don't
exactly play here often! Last Autumn when Weezer were due to tour the
UK some friends and I were going to travel to the UK to see the band
but unfortunately that tour was cancelled but then when the Reading
Festival line-up was announced and Weezer were on it, I knew I had to
go and I didn't care how much it cost!! Straight away I was able to
convince 4 of my friends that it was worth going for Weezer alone
never mind all the other great bands that were there! Anyway we all
bought our tickets, booked flights and waited 4 long months for the
end of August to roll along.....So last Thursday I got up early not
having been able to sleep the night before with excitement and headed
to the airport. After about 10 hours travel we finally arrived in
Reading. I was so happy. I knew that in less than 24 hours I would
have seen Weezer, my favourite band in the world. We set up our tent
and found out that Weezer would be on at 17:35. Knowing exactly how
long was left until I could see the band I started to annoy people by
telling them precisely, down to the second, was left until I would
see Weezer!....The next day I was at the Main Stage very early to
stake out a good position. While I watched the bands I started to get
paranoid that Weezer wouldn't show up!! Anyway The White Stripes came
on and I knew we were getting close to the big moment. The White
Stripes were amazing but I knew I was yet to be blown away! With The
White Stripes set completed the roadies began setting up the stage
for Weezer. I started to get so excited. I started to frantically
take pictures of everything just incase for some reason I lost all my
memories of the gig. 17:35 started to draw closer and the set was
fully set-up. The giant =w= had been brought out and everything was
ready. I was chanting for the band, WEEZER, WEEZER, WEEZER. Or as the
English say WEEZAH, WEEZAH (they don't seem to be able to pronounce
'ER' properly). Anyway then It happened I saw the band come out, I
absolutely lost all control. I was shouting and couldn't have been
happier. I was expecting an improv at the start so I used that time
to take loads of picture then got ready to go crazy. Then the band
started into Undone and the whole crowd went crazy. Weezer played an
amazing set. The undoubted highlight for me was 'Say It Ain't So'.
I've loved the song since I got 'Blue' way back when and I nearly
cried when I heard the opening chords! The set was amazing though and
left everyone who was a Weezer fan speechless and everyone who wasn't
a Weezer fan suddenly became a Weezer fan. I wanted more after Buddy
Holly but I knew it wasn't gonna happen. I tracked down all my
friends who I had got separated from during the gig and we all agreed
that it was the best gig ever and well worth the distance we
travelled!....I could go on forever about how amazing the gig was. I
keep remembering different things all the time. All I know is that it
was utterly fantastic and I can't wait to see Weezer again. Hopefully
I won't have to wait 8 years this time again....loads of people made
the trip from Ireland especially for them....there are thousands of
fanatical Weezer fans who would kill to see them live. I know because
I was ordered to buy concert T-Shirts for all the Weezer fans I know
who couldn't make the trip and trust me there were loads of them.
Anyway thanks again." ---Cheers, David O'Neill
- "...Heya, I just got home from the Reading festival and wanna say
how much Weezer's set kicked arse! I'm a huge Weez fan and was
looking forward to their set for ages but nothing prepared me for
what happened!! They graced the stage to chants and screams from the
50,000+ large crowd that had crammed around the Main stage. As soon
as Rivers shed his first chord and the `flying dove' illuminated, the
crowd went crazy. `Undone' was received by huge cheers and the
universal `Weezer' hand signs as everybody jumped and swayed to one
of the classiest songs that graced the festival. It was such an
amazing experience to hear everyone sing the chorus along with Rivers
and it really super-charged the atmosphere. The pit in front of the
stage was rammed with rock-lovers who, like me, had come to see some
truly inspiring music. The energy had obviously passed off onto
Rivers and the rest of the band who began to jump and rock around the
stage; Rivers at one stage threw his guitar over his head!! `The Good
Life' and `Why Bother?' really rocked despite Rivers [past]
admittance that 'Pinkerton is s**t''. `Hash Pipe' really got the
crowd jumping and gave way to a hell of a lot of crowd-surfing! After
56 minutes of pure rock, the crowd reached climax as `Buddy Holly'
was embarked upon in conjunction with a cheer that could have been
heard as far away as the sister-festival in Leeds! The end of the set
had left Scott collapsed on the floor, Rivers gasping in a kind of
meditation, Pats drums in pieces and Brian stunned! The powerful
chants from the crowd and the sheer energy of the gig made it one
totally unforgettable experience. For that hour Weezer had well and
truly got the UK to boogie and my god how much did I love it. This
gig was long awaited and has left the whole of England gagging for
some more Weezer, all I can say is 'WE WANT THE WEEZ''" ---Matt W
- "...Hey all you Weezer fans out there, i've just got back from my 4
days/nights of camping mayhem at the Reading Festival and HAD to
e-mail praising Weezer for the best show of the whole 3 days of
quality music! I've been trying to see Weezer for some time now so
when i found out they were at Reading it didnt take me long to get my
tickets and what a show! The set list was pure genius, they played
all the songs the fans wanted to hear and really turned on the style!
EVERYONE was singing their hearts out, and the "Weezer" chants soccer
style were funny! "Keep Fishin'" rocked, "Undone" was the best
possible start, and well...nothing beats "Buddy Holly" to end!
Bouncing up n' done was mandatory and if you werent digging Weezer
then you may as well have gone to the dance tent 'cos this was for
the fans! As soon as it finished i made sure i had my super cool
Weezer T-Shirt and enjoyed walking past many others sporting them
(for once it was cool to be dressed in the same outfit as someone
else!) Anyways, thanx you guys for treating all your fans and
festival goers to some fun in the sun, come back to the UK and tour
soon, you know you will sell every single ticket and make us all
happy people! P.S...Did anyone see the flying 'V' of birds as Weezer
were playing?!..i think they were somehow paying homage to the band,
but couldnt quite muster a whole 'W'!!!" ---Ben Andrew, Bedforshire

*08/22/02 make the white queen run so fast*
...today we packed our bags and went on what is ordinarily a 1 hour
drive to Reading. Due to the fact that 50,000 people were pouring
into the town for the festival, however, it took quite a bit
longer...3 1/2 hours. We settled in at the hotel, found a cool olde
pub to eat at, and then wandered around, mingling with the Reading
faithful. Ocassionally a weez fan would emerge from the boombox,
sleeping bag and case-of-beer carrying festival goers and say whats
up? This whole scene is pretty amazing, and goes off pretty
hitch-free year after year. Tomorrow we'll cruise onto the festival
grounds proper and there will be a rediculous amount of rock going
on. The Reading portion of the Reading/Leeds festival is sold out!
50,000 tickets, all in the hands of the stoked fans of a massive
grouping of bands...

recorded a "performance" of "Keep Fishin'", which should air soon as

*08/19/02 all you gotta do is repeat after me*
*touring: [428] travel day: Osaka, Japan to London, England*
Today was officially the roughest day of the tour, due to sheer
quantity of travel. We got up at 5:30 again, cruised to the Osaka
airport, and got on a 12 hour flight to Frankfurt, Germany. A
personal highlight was watching "Monsters Inc.", which helped about
1/7th of the flight go by. Thats some funny stuff. The laptop gave 4
hours of battery life, so that was 4 hours of website work. The rest
was the bleary 1/2 sleep of airplane insanity. Frankfurt airport
yielded strange 'smoking kiosks' which the smokers rooted at, and
everyone else avoided like the plague! Starving, I suceeded in
getting the McDonalds to serve me meat-less cheeseburgers, which
wasnt easy in Germany! That was pretty cool. Then we boarded a short
flight to London, collected the baggage, and went into the city to
check into the hotel. Heres where the jet lag attacks- We were
feeling 2 AM, but it was only 5 PM. The race was on to stay up as
long as possible. A really awesome walk in Hyde Park, watching the
waterfowl and people, helped out a lot. Happily, tomorrow is a true
day off, so everyone can recharge the batteries. Expect a catch-up on
Keep Fishin news, and many fixes on the radio request page, and some
'Lion and the Witch' stuff.

*touring: [428] Osaka: Summersonic Festival show #2 of 2*
...Today started out pretty crispy as we had to get up at 5:30 AM to
fly down to Osaka. We checked in and caught catnaps before venturing
out for a breif time in Osaka, which for some of us was spent
entirely in search of and patronizing the fine dining establishment
that is Mos Burger. later we cruised down the freeway to the Osaka
World Trade Center area, where they hold the Osaka SummerSonic in
this big fenced off open area at the foot of the WTC skyscraper we
call "the Transformer", because it looks like a giant robot at
night.
Today had the additional challenge added of Typhoon #13, which was
making its presence known with wild winds and rain most of the day
and evening. The weather and the traditional communication gap
between English and Japanese speaking people working the stage
combined with several delays throughout the course of the day made
things pretty intense by the time weezer's gear was being set up.
But the weez crew lived up to the test and kicked some ass for the
band today, dialing everything in under very stressful conditions.
The Osaka crowd was LOUD and had the happy fury of a soaked crowd
who were rocking out and just didn't care. Everything turned out to
be pretty darn epic tonight, and everyone in the band reported
having a great show. It felt really heroic to me. Then we got the
treat of watching Guns N Roses play for the second time in 2 days,
this time from the side of the stage. If anything they were even
tighter, leaner and meaner than yesterday. Good jam.
...a fan's point of view...
- "...the festival was awesome, weezer was definitely the highlight
of the 2nd day in osaka!! for real the hour that
weezer played was one of the best times for me this summer! i went
totally crazy that i still dont have my voice back from singing and
screaming. rivers looked hella happy; was funny he sang the japanese
number song and talked some funny japanese. at the end he went up on
the drum set and made an "x" with the drum sticks which i thought
was funny if it was a joke about the old japanese band X. anyway
thanks weezer for an awesome evening; the fest couldn't have been
any better without you guys! cant wait till weezer's back in osaka
again." ---yuko

*touring: [428] Tokyo: Summersonic Festival show #1 of 2*
...Wow, what a day! The Tokyo Chiba Marine Stadium turned out to be
just the right size for the over 30,000 rock lovers who assembled
today. We got there as the Hives were diving into their set. This
was their first taste of Japan and it looked like they were working
on getting comfortable on stage. They poured on the charm as best
they could while adjusting to the setting. Next up was Mongol 800
who I will attempt to describe as sort of a Japanese Green Day.
Super catchy melodies all over the place, and punky riffage. Sort of
led by the bass player guy's blangy-blang bass riffs. Hanoi Rocks
dissapeared form the main stage bill, we dont know why, and so it
went to the weez. Rivers came out slinging his special combo of
abstract thoughts and crowd stoking, and particularly charmed the
audience with his nice renditions of the "Chippusu" potato chip song
and the "Japanese childrens counting song". Weezer had a mission
today, to show they could command a stadium. I, for one, think they
suceeded. Of course there was one more act on the bill tonight. As
Rivers announced late in the weezer set, "I just got one thing to
say: Guns And Roses!". We later learned that Axl himself was
watching and enjoying the weez set from the wings, and heard that
weezer is just about his fave band these days! Now thats pretty damn
cool.
We took up our positions to watch the 4th GnR show in the last 3
years take shape [they did Rock in Rio 2 years ago, Las Vegas last
year, and Hong Kong a few days ago]. As it got darker the scheduled
showtime came and passed with no rock music started. Everyone
started to worry, was this another notorious delayed start? The
stadium had a 9:30 noise curfew, and the last train home for many
patrons was at 8:45, so G-n-R didnt have much time to burn. As it
turned out, one of their fog machines was mounted way up high in the
lights, and it had blown up right before showtime, showering the
stage with slippery fog oil. They ended up being 40 min late, while
tech guys used just about every towel in the stadium to make the
stage safe for rocking out again. And rock out they did! While Axl
is now the only orignal member left, the band he has assembled has
the chops big time, and they were tight and aggro, tearing thru all
the classics! Axl ran around like a madman, and the crowd was in a
ballistic state for the whole set. Amazing stuff. And at one point,
Axl said to the crowd something like "...[Well here we are] playing
with weezer...I never thought i'd [have the opportunity to do] a
show with weezer, after [all I went thru] for the last 8 years..."

*touring: [428] Tokyo: Summersonic soundcheck*
...well, everyone is having different degrees of sucess dealing with
jetlag, but the common feature is that everyone is getting up earlier
that they expect to. We went to Mos Burger to discover they werent
open yet, so we waited the 15 minutes till they opened up and were
treated to the freshest of the fresh foods. Later there was a
soundcheck at the Summersonic stadium location, so we took the van
about an hour out of the city and checked the scene out. This is
basically a baseball stadium, absolutely massive! How many people are
expected? were not sure. We do know that the Hives are playing before
weezer, and Guns n Roses (well, Axl and his current band) are playing
right after, as the headline act. Its going to be nuts.
...and here's [439] a new mini video clip [mpg download], entitled

*touring: [428] travel to japan [part 2]*
...so anyway, we landed in Japan and suddenly its the 15th, due to
the pesky int'l dateline. One long freeway trip later, we checked in
at the hoteru and were soon angling for our fresh faves, Subway,
Lawson, and Mos Burger. Mos would have to wait, we were too starving
to make the walk. Everywhere the crazy cicadia type monster bugs were
making their confounded buzzy racket, taking us back to the
Summersonic 2000 days.

*touring: [428] Fly To Japan [part 1]*
Off to Japan! Thru the wonder of airline miles, I was able to upgrade
to business class for the 10 hour flight, which allowed for an actual
nap at some point. Never kept track of those pesky miles before this
year, now I'm glad I started! A smooth flight for the most part. A
blur of naps and nap-like states of grogginess, reading Clash book 'A
Riot Of Our Own', salads, cheese, nasty film "The Time Machine"
blissfully ignored in favor of some good computer work. The band
napped heavily on this flight, which is always a good thing when
hurtling thru the air at 37,000 feet. Conclusion: take more naps,
youll be happier.

*08/12/02 what's golden?*
...L.A. day "off" #2 of 3: mucho mas work
Today was a twofold day of work for the karl. First was a meeting at
Geffen with the "New Media" [web, dvds, etc] department, wherein I
turned in a whole bunch of completed clips prepared especially for
the DVD, and we talked menu details and such. I still have a chunk of
more clips to prepare and turn in, but Im starting to finally feel
that the mountaintop has been reached, and the trail is finally
starting to angle downhill. Currently the plan calls for an October
release, but any number of delays could still occur. In any event,
the stuff I'm solely responsible for should be turned in throughout
the rest of this month, and then its down to the serious tweaking and
fine tuning.
The second part of the day was spent with weez cronie/Psoma + Nerf
Herder member Justin, as we tackled the massive labor intensive
project of re-doing Rivers' home studio. The bulk of the work was
cleaning out some huge and packed to the gills storage areas, which
were filled to overflowing with everything from forgotten steel body
guitars, to bags of totally unnecessary cement mix. What a mess! In
the end, the studio was bereft of all nasty junk and useless extra

...Magazine update: The August 2002 Mix magazine (not "The Mix " or
"Mixmag" but "Mix") which has a big room with a piano on the cover,
is finally out, and does indeed have a pretty long article on the
making of Maladroit, including comments from both Pat Wilson and
engineer Chad Bamford. The October ish of Modern Drummer magazine has
a short but interesting blurb on Maladroit on page 153.

*Enlightenment Tour [428] Day 36 [LAST DAY!]: Concord, CA: Chronicle
Pavilion *
*Main Stage: Sparta, Dashboard Confessional, Weezer
Second Stage: The Special Goodness, Rooney, Home Town Hero, Am
Radio*
Well, the Enlightenment Tour came to this, the last show, high up in
the dry hills somewhere in the East San Francisco Bay area. Patrick
continually referred to this as "Concord grape country", not
actually knowing if the town's name had anything to do with grapes.
A huge "W" was trampled or scorched high up on a hillside
overlooking the venue. The work of fans? aliens? No one was sure.
What was sure was that the thermometer read 105 degrees, a high that
mercifully lowered as the sun went down. Also sure was the triumph
of rock tonight! All the bands, The Special Goodness, Rooney, Home
Town Hero, AM Radio, Sparta, Dashboard Confessional and Weezer
kicked out the jams tonight! After the smoke cleared and the
feedback faded, it was time for the final aftershow party, which was
an emotional goodbye as the bands, crews and staff all parted ways.
A portion of the weez crew and the band will be continuing on in a
few days as the Japan/UK/Europe dates commence, but for now we said
goodbye to the most excellent bandmembers and crewmembers of all the
bands who now part ways. The Enlightenment Tour was a bonafide
success and sets the tone and precident for future weez tours: Fun,
loud, big, and chock full of quality music. MASSIVE thanks to all
the bands, crew, local staff across the country, and especially YOU
the fans for helping make the Enlightenment Tour the great sucess it
was. Hats off.
*"Weezer World Cup" Foosball Challenge #14: San Francisco- Live
105/KCNL*
Foosball Challenge #14! Last Challenge! Today before the show there
was the final fan vs. weez foosball challenge. In many cities on the
Enlightenment Tour, the local radio station chose winning fans who
got to come backstage before the show and challenge the band to a
mini-foosball tournament! There were usually 6 winners per show, and
they divide up into 3 teams who face off vs weezer for one game
each.
Todays match results:
Round 1: Team Weezer (Cuomo/Bell) V. The Hooligans (Navi Tumber and
Camellia Asgarian) : Winner: Team Weezer. Score: 10-3. [The firey
Hooligans came ready to rumble, in soccer regalia and attitude to
match. The no-spinning rule worried them but they quickly adapted
and were a force to be reckoned with]
Round 2: Team Weezer (Cuomo/Bell) V. Smith and Jones (Jennifer
Stoddard and Andrea Stoddard) : Winner: Team Weezer. Score: 10-1.
[Smith and Jones FA were inexperienced but worked hard to adapt and
learn, were rewarded with a goal versus tight-fisted goalie Bell]
Round 3: Team Weezer (Cuomo/Bell) V. Flying Death Skulls From Above
(Joe Salas and Blair O'Malley) : Winner: Team Weezer. Score: 10-1.
[a far more intense battle than the score reflected, the Skulls had
some foos skills but simply werent able to capitalize.]

...the first batch of Concord fans' show tales that came in...
- "...Hey Karl! I just got home from the last Weezer concert in
Concord, CA and it was THE GREATEST! We started the night off
watching The Special Goodness and they were pretty great... then
next up was Rooney and they rocked hardcore! We met Scott while they
were playing and he was incredibly nice. Then we went to the main
stage and watched a bit of Sparta. We met some
pretty cool kids and then Dashboard was up and they were pretty
radical. Weezer was of course up next and they WERE THE BEST EVER!!
Yeeeah!! Rivers seemed pretty loose and I loved when Pat took over
the guitar and Rivers stood on the drum set. I was stoked for that
show and now I'm a little sad it's over, but it was GREAT and I
can't wait for the next tour!!" ---Shelly (pinkweezerton)
- "...Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww what a great show... that wass sooooooooo
amazing. THis was the best weezer performance ever!!! Rivers said
some hilarious things and preached some bible things.,...i think.
Amazing set they played. Almost all the pinkerton songs! The good
life...el scorcho wow! Pat did a great Van Halen style solo at the
very end. Great show guys!!!" ---SSS
- "...Goddamn, Weezer rocked the ******* house tonight. The setlist
was awesome- starting and ending the show with fierce energy. The
Special Goodness also kicked 'el taco', who knew Pat could rock out
so hard on a guitar...a satisfying jam session indeed. And despite
some rather, to say the least, obnoxious drunk people sitting in
front of me and blocking my view of Brian, I couldn't have asked for
a better concert. Thanks Karl, Rivers, Scott, Pat, Brian, and the
sound guys, I can die happy now.
"Sometimes you just have to just pick up an axe" -RC " ---=mimi=
(AquaPeache on .com boards)
- "...I just walked into my hotel room in concord,Reno NV being my
origin, and i wanted to tell you how badass the show was tonight, my
best friend and i went to both tonights show, and the show in
nashville. Both shows rocked pretty hard, but tonight served the
rock up in a massive portion! We started off checking out some
Special Goodness, which dominated the side stage, then we checked
out some Rooney, which also rocked hard, and happened to bump into
Scott, who is a totally rad guy.....The we headed over to the main
stage and caught the tail end of Sparta, they too sounded pretty
good. Then Dashboard hit the stage and definitely got the crowd
going, then, WEEZER HIT THE STAGE! it was total euphoria! they
booted out a healthy mix of new and
old, it was a perfect was to end a kickass tour.....i cant wait to
see you all the next time around" ---Tyler- (weezer4lyfe on the
boards)
- "...Woah, got there, saw pat, he signed my ticket (thanks btw
pat), scott walked through the crowd to get to the stage...TSG
ROCKS...Sparta was...loud...Dashboard was not bad, he had the crowd
going...nice set list! no one else, no other one, why bother, el
scorcho, the good life, simple pages, 20 minute (or so it seemed)
verion of only in dreams...wow...thanks for not going to the
Shoreline!...come back to concord soon! can i suggest "Ash" as an
openner for the next tour? thanks!" ---roy (snapdragonslovetoy)
- "...only one word can really descripe the show tonight, and thats
rockatastic! maybe it was the setlist, or the pyro, or the tons of
.commers i met, or the fact that i met scott and u and atom, and
scott told me he would marry me, but none the less, tonight was the
best weezer show ever, and ive been to 9! i was totally blown away.
from the ass**** sitting next to me, to the cute couple on the other
side, the to whiny emo kids behind me, it was all great! thanks so
much" ---=sarah=(curlyhare1)
- "...Well, I am speachless. I can easily say that it was the
sweetest concert i have ever seen. I have seen weezer three times
this year: Extended Midget, Dusty West and Enlightenment.... this
was unbelievable. Not to mention I saw the Special Goodness which
kicked ass. Then I met Pat.... wow....what can I say... the coolest
guy ever. It made my trip from Seattle to L.A. well worth it's
while. I can't really comprehend how cool Rivers was, I have never
seen him so crazy. He was hilarious, he was calling everyone his
children and brother and sisters. hahaha. Pat and Scott started
bickering on stage, it was great. Pat also brought back memories
while telling us the story about how they named El Scorcho. To
coment on Brian Bell.........very good very cool and all together
godlike. I brought along my friends parents who are now the geezer
weezer fans, it was great they loved it!! basically (no fact) weezer
rules the world... period...." ---~Ben Grant
- "...The show was my fourth show but is number two. Not because it
was bad--but, SF will always be the best. SPARTA BROUGHT THE ROCK!
[didnt like Dashboard]--and the WEEZ BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN. I'm so
glad I went. I had lawn tickets but the security was pretty bad so I
snuck into the seats. My friend and I danced the ******* night away.
Karl, I tell ya, Weezer is never gonna get old for me. I was a
little disappointed in no riser for pat's drums. But, it didn't
matter the show rocked. And Scott messing around with the pedals
reminded me of a Radiohead show I saw last summer. Sparta and
Weezer....So damn good." ---A.P. Brown
- "...Well, I have mixed feelings about tonight's show. Sparta was
good, and I really enjoyed Dashboard - but Weezer shows have always
been about the crowd coming together, singing geek rock anthems in
unison such as Jonas and Surfwax. Due to the fact that the Weez has
become so popular of late, the 15,000+ [_actually, closer to 10k
-k_] crowd was drawn to the Chronicle Pavilion mostly by Green and
Maladroit, which left many clueless when it came to belting out (and
rawking out to) the classics of Blue and Pink, which comprised the
majority of the setlist. Weezer came to rawk, and it showed,
especially in Rivers' (drunken?) attempts to rally the crowd into
singing along. =w='s musicality was of the highest quality I have
yet to see in a live performance. Unfortunately, the crowd was
decidedly lackluster and took much away from the concert as a whole.
(This is a bit of an ironic twist on the Yahoo Outloud tour of early
2001, when I would say that the energies of crowd and band were
reversed from those observed tonight.) All in all, a good show, but
one in which I sometimes found myself alone when flashing the =w=
and busting out old-school choruses." ---Shefik
- "...Who the heck started the concord grapes thing? The concert has
left me in total awe and deafness. The pyro was kickin'! Oh and
Karl, before Special Goodness was starting out,, you had a piece of
grass in your hair. Thought i'd let you know after 4 hours. Hash
Pipe was a great opener. I was a little, okay a smidge, disappointed
that Only in Dreams came so early in the setlist. And where was the
confetti? but i guess Paper Airplanes are better, in a way. I'm
still in total shock! I had really great seats for the show. The
people next to us were really nice but the party poopers in front of
us, oh they were NOT nice. If i only could remember what came after
the Good Life, i'd be happier. The songs all kicked ass. The story
about El Scorcho, if i could remember all of it, was hilarious. i'm
done." ---emily (weezindork)
- "...Just came back from the weezer show in Concord, wow that was
an awesome show, I kept running back from first stage to second
stage, surprisingly I saw every band (well I kinda chose not to see
Dashboard for too long). All the side bands were great, especially
Rooney and Home Town Hero, the bands pulled pranks on each other
since it was the last show. Sparta was good as usual, well what can
I say about Dashboard? not too much, and weezer came on, they didnt
really play the set list I wanted but it was close enough, I sang
along to every song, the highlights were definately El Scorcho and
Say it Aint So, everyone was singing along to those songs. The band
really poured out their hearts and soul into this show, I was very
pleased with their performance." ---RS
- "...i just came back from the weezer show in concord and omg the
show was absolutley awesome! even though it was my first it for sure
will not be my last. rivers was so funny and so cute in his little
suit. i would like to thank them for all the great stuff they've
accomplished and the great music they make that please my ears.
dashboard was good (maybe cuz chris is just too hot) and sparta was
interesting. anyways all those pinkerton songs were just rad. thanks
again, and please come back next year!!!! weez on!" ---~T.Lee

as the very first act of the day. Doors are at 6pm, and they will
probably be starting things off at 6:15, so if you want the full 7
band Enlightenment experience, come early! _preshow fan meet-up

*Enlightenment Tour [428] Day 35: Irvine, CA; Verizon Amphitheater*
*Main Stage: Sparta, Dashboard Confessional, Weezer
Second Stage: Third Grade Teacher, Rooney, Home Town Hero, Am Radio*
Well, there we were, headlining at the same place where I saw the '92
Lollapalooza, and the '96 Weenie Roast where KISS put on their first
original line-up + full makeup gig since 1979. Could the weez
dominate such a massive venue? Hell yeah, as it turned out! This was
the biggest headlining weezer show ever, with over 15,000 peeps in
attendance! This show put the recent record setting Philly show
[14,500] into second place, and the Chicago United Center show from
last fall [13,000] into 3rd place. What a blast! Tonight the
documentation dept [me] was supplemented with Rod and his 16mm film
movie cameras. Assuming the footage comes out good, this should yield
some really cool looking stuff for future use. It was pretty hectic
for Rod up there, as film isnt something you can rush and bounce
around with like my videocameras. But Rod is a pro. Speaking of
pro's, All the bands tonight rocked it out STRONG. Tonight the Second
Stage was joined by Third Grade Teacher, a firey and fun rock outfit
who previously opened for the weeez at the Troubador back in 2000.
*"Weezer World Cup" Foosball Challenge #13: Los Angeles- KROQ*
Foosball Challenge #13! Today before the show there was another fan

usual which was all weird and pounded on. Sorta like playing an
'away' game for the weez.
Todays match results:
Round 1: Team Weezer (Cuomo/Wilson) V. Max Fischer Players (Lauren
Calavan and Jonathan Zeitlin) : Winner: Team Weezer. Score: 10-0.
[ouch. the Max Fischer Players struggled to put things together, and
couldnt penetrate the tuff weez 'd'.]
Round 2: Team Weezer (Cuomo/Wilson) V. The Avant Guards (Grace Kim
and Colleen Monaco) : Winner: Team Weezer. Score: 10-1. [The Avant
Guards drew first blood with a beautiful shot at the outset, but then
were put on the ropes by the weez. a wild struggle.]

- "...I used to be a weezer fan, but after this awesome kick a**
concert i am now a weezer worshipper. This was my first weezer
concert but it will definetly not be my last. The set list sounded
like it was made especially for me with 'say it aint so' and my
pinkerton favorites 'el scorcho' and 'the good life'. Rivers was so
talkitive and even cracked jokes like calling us idaho. Brian did his
thing, pat was awesome, and scott rocked it out on stage. I swear i
almost died when the huge =w= came out from under pat. DC was awesome
and the side stage was cool but i give my full props to weezer for
putting on the best concert ever of my short teenage life. Weezer
deserves the title of ROCK GODS after this awesome concert. =w=
RULES!!---" ---Irma, from LA :O)
- "...yo everyone, it's midnight here in california, and I thought
I'd write down my little report of the weezer concert tonight (august
9th) at the Irvine Meadows amphitheatre. Coming from the small island
of Kauai in Hawaii, it was really a new experience where 15,000
people were all crammed in there, since it's more than 1/4 my
island's population. Heheh, plus it was hard to fight the urge to say
to everyone who was wearing a weezer shirt "hey, nice shirt" as I'm
so accustomed to doing when I see people on the streets. The show
itself was a great one. Okay, so I was sitting in the very very upper
lawn portion, but
that's what you get when you buy tickets two days before the event.
Seeing El Scorcho live makes me a very happy person. The pyrotechnics
were great, and I was glad I got to see the Winged-W in real life.
Aside from security being ultra-anal (they told me that I couldn't
keep the pins on my hat. WTF is that? They're pins. Needless to say,
I got in with them on. Booya.) the show was totally awesome. Rock!"
---Hunter 'piro' Morrison
- "...I must say that this is the best Weezer show I've ever been
to... My sis and I got there a little late but we caught some
HomeTown Hero on the side stage before heading in to watch Dashboard
Confessional rock the stage. When Weezer came out the crowd went
wild!!! My sis and I danced the whole night!!! And Rivers and the
guys really were energetic which moved everything up to the next
level. THEY ROCKED!!! I must say that everything about this concert
fell into place... let me explain... I got Orchestra 3 seats the day
before the concert (which if you're standing on stage is a little to
the right of center)... They guys played El Scorcho which my sis and
I have never heard in concert before... I got a guitar pick from a
wonderful stage hand... and this other great stage hand (who looked
like Scott but with shorter hair?) tossed me a set list for which I
thanked him over and over again... oh my... I'm so happy right now!!!
This has truly been a beautiful night... and I owe it all to the
guys... THANKS SO MUCH!!! :D" ---Evelyn (sienna14), ORCH 3 seat 302
- "...Hey Karl! I just wanted to say that this concert was not only
the biggest Weezer Concert ever, but the best too! They played
everything, from all the albums. Rivers was on tonight, and the whole
band performed great! Kick ass! The encore with Only In Dreams was
fantastic, Weezer showed So-Cal tonight a great home-town show! rock
on!" ---Mallory
- "...The show was awesome. It was my first Weezer show and I doubt I
could have seen a better show than the one they put on tonight. The
set list was epic. Great selections for albums with a slight favoring
of the blue album and pinkerton. Rivers was absolutely hilarious on
stage with his quips. Pyro was awesome. I knew, from reading up on
weezer.com, about most of the special little things, like pyro and
the "w" coming from under the drums but it all still kicked when I
saw it live. The music was absolutely solid. Its always a sign of a
good band when their music sounds the same live as it does on their
album and I can say for sure that not only did it sound as good, it
sounded 10x better. Singing along to all the songs with all the other
fans was great. Just a great experience all around. The side stage
was sweet too. I got to see Third Grade Teacher, Rooney, and Home
Town Hero. They all were good and showed there's a good future to
music. All-in-all an absolutely fantastic rock show!" ---Sam Aronoff,
Irvine, CA
- "...It had to have been a dream...I just got back from teh IRVINE
show and I have never experience a =w= show like this one yet. The
amount of people and the energy was amazing. I truly feel
enlightened!!! Thanks for such a great tour...It was an experience to
remember. I can't imagine how in the world =w= can top this one.
THANKS AGAIN you guys rock!!!" ---Badtzmaru
- "...Just got back from the biggest show that Weezer has ever
headlined!! And what a show!! Sparta was wonderful and laid a great
foundation for the =w= to build upon. Although, I was not able to see
Dashboard, they did sound great! But when weezer got on stage, and
started off their set......... all bets were off. With an amazing
amount of songs from the blue album and pinkerton, this concert
proved to be the best that I have ever seen. Plus, Rivers was
speaking a bunch!! This was a total shock to me, but could only add
to the being that is =w=. An overall incredible night and worth its
weight in gold." ---Evan
- "...howdy karl and the rest of the weezer crew! holy hell... weezer
in irvine was a mega-kick ass show. sparta rocked... dashboard
exceeded comprehensio... weezer illuminated. this was my first time
ever seeing dashboard confessional in person so thanks for the weez
for inviting them along. all my love and respect for chris c. and the
fellas. this show by far was the greatest weezer show i've ever been
to. i was uber excited to meet scott and get his autograph on my
ticket. i was so taken aback by his presence that i stood there like
a bumbling idiot. heh. sorry if i tripped out on you scott. i think
it's really cool that you were out and about, mingling with us common
folk. you guys just keep getting better... and to answer rivers'
question "how long will we keep this going?", as long as their is
breath in my lungs to sing along with every song and strength in my
arms to hold a "=w=" up to the sky. i don't know if it's elightenment
or a ringing from the high decibel levels, but whatever it is, i love
it. rock on!" ---kyle m. fv, ca

*08/08/02 yellow sno-cone = bad idea*
_reminder: Keep Fishin' requests..._
The next 2 weeks are critical for "Keep Fishin'". Those who can
should request it at their local Modern Rock radio station(station
list here) [3] . The single is on the cusp of doing really well, but
now its "make or break" time, and your *consistent* requests over
the next 2 weeks are important! We need to send a "daily reminder"
to these stations that you guys arent satisfied with their usual
selection, and that only the new weezer track will do! Jordan,
weezer's head man at Geffen Records and a real expert when it comes
to this type of stuff told us: "the fans [need to] request keep
fishin on their local mod rock stations consistently over next 2
weeks, so its not a flood of calls over a couple of days-we need to
push into top of chart now or the track won't get played enough to
drive sales." Woah! Now that's a taste of official business that
really lays it out in black and white. Jordan really knows about
these things, so we gotta give it the ol' college try! So if you
can, request _consistently over the next 2 weeks_ and try and help
us put this one over the edge!
also, an Mtv reminder...[1 day left to make it! can it be done?]
Over the past few years, the subject of "getting on trl" has been
divisive for weezer fans to say the least. Some are adamantly
against it, some think it would be really cool to break into such
exclusive territory with some good music, and others dont watch Mtv
anyhow and just dont care! Now, weezer has flirted with TRL in the
past with "Hash Pipe", to mixed reaction from the fans. The TRL
"machine" is notoriously difficult to affect, as hoardes of fans of
todays hottest boy bands, teen divas, rap stars and "cute" punks
clog the vote tallys at all times.
That having been said, the band thinks its time to experiment here.
The "Keep Fishin'" video popped up on the "wannabe" list last week,
and there have been several fan-led attempts to vote Keep Fishin' in
the top 10, which so far have failed. Well, weezer wants this week
to be "THE week", and is asking all those who would cast their votes
to do so [441] all this week, Monday the 5th untill Friday the 9th.
Can the fans shove the weez into the countdown, a full year after
the Hash Pipe made it? That what we'd like to find out here. Thanks
in advance for voting [441] and trying to inject a little weez into
the monolith of That Carson Guy. _note: several fans have noted that
"you can vote as many times as you want- just hit the back button
and vote again!". others have said that "turning off your browser
cookies" helps to ensure that every vote counts!_
*Enlightenment Tour [428] Day 34: Travel/Day Off [L.A.: 'Jackass'
screening party]*
Today the guys had a day off, but fortuitously, the private first
screening of the "Jackass" movie [due out in October] was today, and
weezer was invited. The private affair was chock full of interesting
characters, including Slash of Guns n Roses, Andrew W.K., Spike
Jonze [of course!], Tre Cool of Green Day, and of course the whole
Johnny Knoxville-Jackass-CKY clan. Apparently Mtv rented out the Los
Feliz area house, whose backyard was ideal for erecting a big movie
screen. $13.99 lawn furnature (all pricetags intact) was in place
for the screening audience.
This movie is the finest film of 2002... so long as you can stand
(in Johnny Knoxville's words) "entirely too much man-ass."...not to
mention some nasty barfing.... and, er... well, if youre over 17 or
have a parent or guardian with you, check it out this fall. Lets
just say we couldnt stop laughing, and something rediculously funny
happens about every 8 seconds.
After the screening it was back to the hob-nobbing, with both Mtv
cameras and interviewers all over the place, not to mention about 20
guys' camcorders going at all times. These Jackass guys just film
everything. I had the personal pleasure of thanking Bam Margera for
being so kick-ass. And yes his parents were there!
Tomorrow its down to Irvine Meadows! A LOT of tickets have been sold
already! Will this crack Philly's recent record of being the biggest
headlining weezer show ever?

"...I was just on the radio. My modern rock station in Ny is Krock
and I called "Booker" and asked to play: weezer's Keep fishin'. He
said: We just played it 2 songs ago. I said: I know, keep playing it
over and over for an hour. He said: won't that get boring? I said:
Mix in some Weezer classics in there. He said: Thank God you don't
run a radio station. I said: Thanks! It
was fun! I'll keep requesting Weezer everyday for the rest of this
week on MTV and on my Radio Station! Go Weezer!" -Jack, NYC
"...I have been furiously trying to get all the mod rock stations in
Milwaukee to play "Keep Fishing" today. I requested on the internet
at Lazer 103 and 102.1 quite a few times and I called 102.1 and
talked to the DJ for a couple minutes about the video, mostly about
Miss Piggy beatin the crap out of everyone. I'll keep requesting as
much as I can." -Cameron
